Mum Shirl


1914- born  on the Erambie Reserve, Cowra, of Wiradjuri descent.



1930- moved with her family to Sydney


1990- she had reared over 60 children with no family  at Mum Shirl’s Redfern house


1970- Shirley, were the guiding force, who were involved in the Gurindji campaign for land rights.


1971- The group helped to establish the Aboriginal Legal Service


1972- the Aboriginal Medical Service, Black Theatre, Tent Embassy,Children’s Service,Company, Detoxification Centre at Wiseman’s Ferry.


1998 -died on 28 April
